Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The government will not respond to pressure to take a stand on support or condemnation for either party involved in the war in Ukraine, Mozambique\u2019s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ver\u00f3nica Macamo has said, arguing that the most important thing is dialogue to achieve peace between the parties.<\/p>\n

Mozambique is one of the 35 countries among the 193 member states of the United Nations that abstained on a motion condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

In response to the country\u2019s neutrality, the Ambassador of the United States of America to Mozambique, Peter Handrick Vrooman, advocated support for the Ukrainians, in a clear message to Mozambique, recalling that our country has always had US support.<\/p>\n

However, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation says that Mozambique has already positioned itself, and there was no likelihood of change.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur major concern is that the parties sit down to find a solution. We know how complicated war is. We don\u2019t want this war to continue. Even if we condemn (one of the parties involved), it will not solve the problem. It is necessary for the parties to sit down and use responsible dialogue to overcome the problem,\u201d Minister Macamo said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe pressure to come down on one side or the other will always be there, but it is not the most important thing,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

The important thing right now is to ensure that the country continues to have good relations with everyone, Minister Macamo said. \u201cWe have relations with all countries, and we think that, in a good relationship, we must join efforts to advise the disagreeing parties to overcome their problems.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ver\u00f3nica Macamo also spoke about the situation of Mozambicans in Malawi, who fled there to escape the impact of Tropical Storm Ana in Zamb\u00e9zia and Tete, guaranteeing that efforts to ensure their return were continuing.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation was speaking on the sidelines of a ceremony granting the title of Honoris Causa to the late Siegfried Anton Lingel.<\/p>\n
