Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican health authorities on Wednesday reported six new cases of the Covid-19 respiratory disease, but no deaths and no recoveries from the disease.<\/p>\n

According to a Wednesday press release from the Ministry of Health, since the start of the pandemic, 1,286,079 people have been tested for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 842 of them in the last 24 hours.<\/p>\n

836 of these tests yielded negative results, and the six positive cases bring the total number of Covid-19 cases diagnosed in Mozambique to 225.194.<\/p>\n

Four of the new cases diagnosed on Wednesday were women and two were men. Two of the cases were identified in Zambezia, two in Niassa, one in Nampula and one in Tete.<\/p>\n

The positivity rate (the percentage of those tested found to be carrying the virus) fell slightly from 0.95 per cent on Tuesday to 0.71 per cent on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Over the same 24 hour period, four Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital (one each in Maputo, Niassa, Tete and Manica), while three new cases were admitted (two in Niassa and one in Tete). The number of people under medical care in the Covid-19 treatment centres fell from 13 on Tuesday to 12 on Wednesday. Ten of these patients (83.3 per cent) were in Maputo, one was in Niassa and one in Tete. Four of these patients are in intensive care and are receiving supplementary oxygen.<\/p>\n

The total number of active Covid-19 cases rose from 77 on Tuesday to 83 on Wednesday. The geographical breakdown of the active cases was as follows: Niassa, 22; Maputo city, 17; Zambezia, 15; Maputo province, seven; Tete, seven; Cabo Delgado, five; Gaza, five; Inhambane, three; and Nampula, two. There were no active cases in either Manica or Sofala.<\/p>\n

The Ministry release also reported that, over the previous 24 hours, a further 91,577 people were vaccinated against Covid-19. To date, 12,624,598 people have been fully vaccinated against the disease, which is 83 per cent of all citizens aged 18 and above.<\/p>\n
