Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The new tax payment system in operation in Mozambique \u2013 www.portaldocontribuinte.at.gov.mz \u2013 officially launched by the Tax Authority on Tuesday (22-03), aims to ensure fiscal transparency, facilitate taxpayer mobility and reduce corruption in the sector.<\/p>\n

Long queues to pay taxes, system failures and illicit collections, which caused taxpayers long delays at posts across the country, may soon be a thing off the past.<\/p>\n

A few days ago, the Taxpayer Portal came into operation, a technological tool designed to reduce the distance between the State and the taxpayer.<\/p>\n

The system was formally launched yesterday by the Mozambican Tax Authority (AT).<\/p>\n

\u201cToday we launched the Portal do Contribuinte, a means by which taxable persons will dynamically interact with the Tax Authority in the fulfilment of their tax obligations, as well as accessing their tax information without having to visit tax collection units,\u201d president of AT Am\u00e9lia Muendane explained.<\/p>\n

Muendane also noted that, in this first phase, the Taxpayer Portal will include the administration of Value Added Tax (VAT) and Simplified Small Taxpayers Taxes (ISPC), ensuring remote communication between the Tax Authority and \u201cRegistration of Taxpayers, Submission of VAT and ISPC Declarations, Management of the Taxpayer\u2019s Current Account, Request for the Discharge Certificate, Consultation of the Tax Status of the Taxpayer and Simulation of Tax Calculation\u201d.<\/p>\n

Access to the platform is via the Internet, making it available to any citizen, in any corner of the country, at any time, thus reducing constraints and complaints.<\/p>\n

Muendane said that the technological modernisation that the institution has been undergoing aims to put an end to irregularities such as informal and illegal commerce, which harm the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn 2021, registered revenue losses resulting from illegalities in the informal sector, were in the order of 11.6 million meticais. This year, the country has already lost, in two months, 9.7 million meticais because of illegal informal trade,\u201d Muendane declared.<\/p>\n

The AT president blamed the expansion of the informal economy for the low quality of some food products, such as alcoholic beverages (imported illegally), fuel (smuggled and adulterated), plastic products (some of which are counterfeit) and products with chemical adulterations whose consequences for public health are incalculable. Other sectors impacted include clothing, spare parts, miscellaneous equipment, household appliances, the market for stolen vehicles, cosmetics and others.<\/p>\n

The company Cervejas de Mo\u00e7ambique (CDM) was the first to join and test the portal, and is already talking about its advantages.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the advantages we have experienced is how easy this tool makes fulfilling our tax obligations. This is because you can access the portal from the comfort of your office or home,\u201d CDM representative Hugo Gomes observed.<\/p>\n

Also breathing a sigh of relief is president of the Mukhero Association, Sudekar Novela. Many traders missed contribution deadlines due to lack of time, he said, but now, \u201cany taxpayer who is aware of their duty to contribute to tax revenue will be able to do so easily, without having to abandon their activity\u201d.<\/p>\n

Interested parties were speaking this Tuesday during celebrations of National Taxpayer\u2019s Day, observed under the motto, \u201cTax Administration and the Taxpayer in the Modernisation of the Tax Management and Collection System\u201d.<\/p>\n

On the same occasion, taxpayers who stood out the most in the 2021 financial year were recognised.<\/p>\n
