Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Two agents of the Rapid Intervention Unit have been detained in connection with the attempted assassinate of Nini Satar in Maputo\u2019s Maximum Security Special Penitentiary (the \u2018B.O.\u2019).<\/p>\n

The attempt on Momade Assife Nini Satar\u2019s life was to go into action about a month ago, but was discovered and aborted by the National Penitentiary Service, O Pa\u00eds has learned from sources close to Satar.<\/p>\n

The Attorney General\u2019s Office (PGR) then launched an investigation which resulted in the arrest on Sunday of two alleged members of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique assigned to the Rapid Intervention Unit.<\/p>\n

The investigation has not yet concluded and the PGR is still seeking to ascertain who, ultimately, wanted Nini Satar dead.<\/p>\n

While this question remains answered, it is at least known that the agents of the Rapid Intervention Unit allegedly involved did not intend to carry out the task themselves, but to entrust it to select B.O. inmates, some of whom are former police agents.<\/p>\n

\u2018O Pa\u00eds\u2019 has also heard that, in order to convince the inmates to join the scheme, the agents were to tell them that the orders came from superiors within the staff of state institutions. However, according to our source, Nini Satar already has clarification that none of these institutions was involved. The PGR says that the case is still sensitive, so it cannot comment.<\/p>\n

Momade Assife Nini Satar is one of the defendants convicted of involvement in the murder of journalist Carlos Cardoso in November, 2000. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison and conditionally released for good behaviour in 2014, having served half his sentence,<\/p>\n

In 2015, Satar asked the court\u2019s permission to travel to India for medical reasons. From there, he absconded to places unknown, and it became necessary to activate Interpol in order to locate him.<\/p>\n

Satar was found in Thailand and brought back to Mozambique in 2018. He is now serving 12 years in prison.<\/p>\n
