Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Traffic along Mozambique\u2019s main north-south highway (EN1) began flowing again on Wednesday afternoon on the stretch between Nicoadala and Namacurra, in the central province of Zambezia, after an interruption on Saturday caused by heavy rainfall, according to a report by the independent television station STV.<\/p>\n

Initially, the flow of traffic over the Ilidje River was restricted to light motor vehicles. Then buses were allowed to cross \u2013 but their passengers had to disembark and rejoin the buses after walking over the bridge.<\/p>\n

Several bus drivers expressed a feeling of great relief after four days stranded either in Nicoadala or Namacurra, where they had helplessly waited for traffic to resume. The emergency interventions to ensure traffic flow began on Sunday and ended on Wednesday<\/p>\n

The National Roads Administration (ANE) delegate in Zambezia, Jorge Govanhica, has repeated his warning to drivers about the need for safe driving, as the desire to reach their final destinations as soon as possible might push them into speeding, at a time when the province is still under rainfall.<\/p>\n

Govanhica added that the roads in both the central and the northern regions may be flooded and the presence of potholes along the roads, hidden under the water, might cause accidents.<\/p>\n

However, as traffic is currently limited to light vehicles and buses, truck drivers transporting a wide range of basic commodities as well as fresh products, are concerned about their goods, as it is not yet certain when every vehicle will pass by the bridge. They fear their cargoes might deteriorate.<\/p>\n
