Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Preventing and combating terrorism in the north of Mozambique is set to be a priority in the relations of bilateral cooperation to be established between Mozambique and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.<\/p>\n

The announcement was made yesterday by the President of the Republic at the end of his working visit to this Middle Eastern country. President Nyusi said that high-level staff would move to assess the particulars within 10 days, with a view to establishing a cooperation framework.<\/p>\n

Mozambique\u2019s head of state travelled to Jordan to participate in a meeting organised to assess the security situation in the world, the challenges and gaps in countries and regions, and to identify what is needed to solve the problems.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the issues that Mozambique presented was the national issue of combating the terrorism that has been plaguing the country since October, specifically in the north of Cabo Delgado province,\u201d said President Nyusi.<\/p>\n

The initiative proposed divides into three main vectors. The first, he explained, concerns the restoration of security in the areas affected and reinforcement of state authority throughout Mozambique, an action in progress in partnership with Rwanda and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).<\/p>\n

The second pillar, Nyusi said, involves strengthening the capacity of the Defence and Security Forces (FDS) so that the country becomes self-sufficient and sustainable in terms of maintaining peace and security, and has sufficient capacityto contain all threats to national sovereignty.<\/p>\n

The third vector has to do with social and economic development, reconstruction, and empowerment of the private and public sectors, in addition to the restoration of the social fabric and humanitarian assistance.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a positive reaction to our presentation and financial, material and social support was assured from several countries who identify themselves with the situation the country is presented with,\u201d President Nyusi said.<\/p>\n

The President of the Republic stated that the visit to Jordan had also identified other potential areas of cooperation, such as agriculture and technical-professional training.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I spoke with King Abdullah II it became clear that we could develop cooperation in the area of agriculture, because we have resources such as land to produce. When asked about how to transport produce, I mentioned the existence of ports in Beira, the Nacala deep water port, and Maputo, making it clear that these present an alternative to Durban, in South Africa,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

The visit had also served as an excellent opportunity to introduce Mozambique, a country little known in the Middle East, to a wider public, the president concluded.<\/p>\n
