Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Circulation on the EN1 in Nicoadala has been stopped since Sunday afternoon in order to replace the metal bridge over the Elege river in Zamb\u00e9zia province.<\/p>\n

The metal bridge parts arrived from Beira on Sunday. They will carry the road that connects the districts of Nicoadala and Namacurra in Zamb\u00e9zia province which was cut by Elege river floodwaters approximately two weeks ago, isolating the central and southern areas of the country.<\/p>\n

Recent work initiated by the National Roads Administration (ANE) allowed the resumption of traffic on the road for pedestrians and light vehicles only. The metal bridge sections brought in from Beira will improve the crossing, providing greater security for the area, ANE delegate Jorge Govanhica explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor this reason, the country\u2019s main road network is closed from this Sunday until early on Monday afternoon, to allow works to proceed without interruption. The work will consist of situating the 30-metre metal bridge from elements that are already complete,\u201d Govanhica explained, adding that no effort would be spared to meet the Monday, 1:00 p.m. deadline.<\/p>\n

The contractor would work day and night until the job was finished, he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cDue to the nature of the work we are going to carry out, we are going to interdict the movement of pedestrians because we will be using cranes to load the parts, so it will not be safe to let people move around here. We appeal to people to comply with our announcements regarding this,\u201d Govanhica concluded.<\/p>\n
