Mozambique will be represented by Domingos Lusitaneo Pier Macuvele, a professor at Rovuma University at the moment completing post-doctorate studies in chemical engineering at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Brazil.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis event means a lot for me, for several reasons,\u201d he explains. \u201cThe selection criteria are purely scientific, and 600 young scientists from all over the world were selected for the field of Chemistry. Being in this select group is a great joy,\u201d said 35-year-old Domingos Lusit\u00e2neo Macuvele, adding: \u201cAs a scientist, I never worried much about awards; what moves me is curiosity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe expectation is huge. It will be an honour to be at the same event with people who have already won the Nobel Prize. Any scientist dreams not just of winning such an award, but of being close to someone who has already won. I hope to leave the event inspired,\u201d Macuvele stresses.<\/p>\n<p>611 young scientists from 91 countries will participate in the 71st Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting! ?<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re excited to welcome them all to #LINO22 \u2013 and hopefully most of them to Lindau for the first on-site meeting since 2019. https:\/\/t.co\/SRDGVLbCOa pic.twitter.com\/JTU5eonFBA<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings (@lindaunobel) March 23, 2022<\/p>\n<p>The meetings are not focused on the presentation of research results, but on the exchange of ideas and discussion of topics that are globally relevant to all scientists.<\/p>\n<p>Among the Nobel Laureates who have already confirmed attendance are Kurt W\u00fcthrich \u2013 2002 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, Hartmut Michel \u2013 1988 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, Benjamin List \u2013 2021 Nobel Prize for Chemistry, Stefan W. Hell \u2013 2014 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, and Steven Chu \u2013 1997 Nobel Prize for Physics (with Claude Cohen-Tannoudji and William D. Phillips).<\/p>\n<p><b>About the Lindau Meetings<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Since their foundation in 1951, the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings have developed into a unique international scientific forum. The annual Meetings provide an opportunity for an exchange between different generations, cultures and disciplines. Once every year, around 30-40 Nobel Laureates convene in Lindau to meet the next generation of leading scientists: 600 undergraduates, PhD students, and post-doc researchers from all over the world.<\/p>\n<p>It was the Lindau physicians Franz Karl Hein and Gustav Wilhelm Parade who approached Count Lennart Bernadotte af Wisborg with the idea of a conference of Nobel Laureates and proceeded to jointly implement this with him, since 1953, with the participation of young scientists. Some 35,000 students, PhD candidates and post-docs have since taken part. Their experience of the Meeting may be literally once-in-a-lifetime, but they remain permanent members of the Lindau Alumni Network and ambassadors for scientific dialogue.<\/p>\n<p>The theme of the Lindau Meetings alternates between the three Nobel Prize scientific disciplines: Physics, Chemistry and Physiology\/Medicine. Every five years, an interdisciplinary Meeting takes place, while the Lindau Meeting on Economic Sciences is held every three years. The varied formats of the scientific programme \u2013 lectures, discussions and more \u2013 are designed based on the principle of dialogue and seek to promote the exchange of knowledge, ideas, and experience between and among Nobel Laureates and young scientists.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the year, the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings continue to pursue their \u201cMission Education\u201d, aimed at emphasising the importance of science and advocating science and research. This is also the purpose for which an online mediatheque is being developed into a learning platform which includes teaching materials for schools.
