Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican health authorities on Tuesday reported a further five cases of the Covid-19 respiratory disease, after no cases at all had been reported the previous day.<\/p>\n

According to a Tuesday press release from the Ministry of Health, since the start of the pandemic, 1,294.945 people have been tested for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 770 of them in the previous 24 hours.<\/p>\n

765 of these tests yielded negative results, while the five positive cases brought the total number of Covid-19 cases diagnosed in Mozambique to 225,244. The positivity rate (the percentage of those tested found to be carrying the virus) on Tuesday was 0.65 per cent.<\/p>\n

Of the new cases identified on Tuesday, three were men and two were women. Two were diagnosed in Maputo province, two in Tete and one in Niassa.<\/p>\n

Over the same 24 hour period, there was no change in hospitalization. No Covid-19 cases were discharged from hospital, and no new patients were admitted. Four patients remained under medical care in the Covid-19 treatment wards, three of them in Maputo and one in Niassa. Two of them are still in intensive care and are receiving supplementary oxygen.<\/p>\n

The Ministry reported no further deaths from the disease on Tuesday, and so the Covid-19 death toll in Mozambique remained 2,200.<\/p>\n

The release reported a further seven recoveries from Covid-19, all of them in Maputo city. The total number of recoveries now stands at 222,997, which is slightly more than 99 per cent of all cases of Covid-19 ever diagnosed in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

The total number of active cases of Covid-19 fell from 45 on Monday to 43 on Tuesday. The geographical distribution of the active cases was as follows: Zambezia, 13; Maputo city, 10; Niassa, six; Tete, five; Inhambane, four; Maputo province, three; Manica, one; and Sofala, one. There were no active cases in Cabo Delgado, Nampula or Gaza.<\/p>\n

The Ministry release also reported that, over the previous 24 hours, a further 19,022 people were vaccinated against Covid-19. The number of people fully vaccinated against the disease now stands at 13,221,530, which is 86.9 per cent of all citizens aged 18 and above.<\/p>\n
