Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD) in Tete is appealing to the population of the lower Zambezi river basin to withdraw from areas at risk of flooding, in view of discharges from the Cahora Bassa dam.<\/p>\n

Three thousand three hundred cubic metres of water per second will be discharged into the Zambezi River, in an action that aims to guarantee the safety of the dam and stabilise the level of the Cahora Bassa reservoir, which currently stands above 95%, Cahora Bassa Hydroelectric (HCB) plant management says.<\/p>\n

Since the discharges could negatively affect residents of Mutarara, Doa and Moatize districts, and also of the city of Tete, INGD spokesman Alex \u00c2ngelo, said that the population was being urged to leave at-risk areas.<\/p>\n
