Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi on Thursday urged new judges appointed to the Administrative Tribunal (TA) to fight against corruption and to ensure that cases are dealt with quickly.<\/p>\n

The TA is the body that oversees the legality of public expenditure and is effectively Mozambique\u2019s highest audit authority.<\/p>\n

Nyusi was speaking at a ceremony in Maputo where he swore into office three new judges, Am\u00e9lia Simbine, Nelson Jaque and Cl\u00e1udio Pene. The three were appointed after a public tender and consultations with the regulatory body, the Higher Council of the Administrative Magistracy.<\/p>\n

Mozambican courts, and particularly the TA, have long been criticized for their lethargy, and so Nyusi made a point of urging the new judges to speed things up. \u201cThe rapid investigation of a case should not be a favour, but a way of working\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

He said the justice system should facilitate the business environment and make the Mozambican market more attractive, competitive and secure for national and foreign private investment. It should also be prompt in providing justice for needy citizens.<\/p>\n

The justice system, Nyusi added, had to meet the challenges posed by the new financial and asset regime of the decentralised bodies of provincial government. The management of the public funds allocated to these bodies must be monitored, he said.<\/p>\n

Among Nyusi\u2019s recommendations was the approval of legal instruments on electronic procedures that could speed up the processing of cases before the TA.<\/p>\n

In the context of repairing the damage caused by natural disasters, Nyui demanded audits and the implementation of tools adequate to the institutional situation in the country and the world, so as to halt any diversion of funds.<\/p>\n

One of the new judges, Am\u00e9lia Simbine, told reporters \u201cthe fight against corruption is not a task exclusive to the three judges who have just taken office, It is also a challenge to all of society\u201d.<\/p>\n
