Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>At least one Mozambican died on Monday night as a result of the floods devastating the South African province of Kwazulu Natal.<\/p>\n

Identified only by his first name, Angelo, the compatriot met his death when his house collapsed as a result of the storm.<\/p>\n

The information was released on Tuesday night by the president of the Mozambican community in Kwazulu Natal, Jos\u00e9 Cal\u00e7andasse.<\/p>\n

By this Tuesday, there was an official record of 59 deaths resulting from the storm and subsequent flooding, 45 of them in Durban alone.<\/p>\n

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa visited the areas affected this Wednesday (13-04), while the Kwazulu-Natal government has called for the province to be declared a disaster area.<\/p>\n

Infrastructure including roads, bridges, schools, houses and businesses have been destroyed. There are problems with the electricity supply and water supply, and operations at the port of Durban have been temporarily suspended.<\/p>\n

With relief teams on the ground offering support, Jos\u00e9 Cal\u00e7andasse urged his fellow Mozambicans to seek shelter in safer areas.<\/p>\n
