Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican government plans to vaccinate 100% of cattle against foot-and-mouth disease during the 2022-2023 veterinary immunisation campaign, the government announced on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The national director of Livestock Development, Am\u00e9rico da Concei\u00e7\u00e3o, said that more than 2.2 million heads of cattle in the country would be vaccinated with the achievement of the goal.<\/p>\n

Am\u00e9rico da Concei\u00e7\u00e3o was speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the launch of the animal vaccination campaign in B\u00fazi district, central Mozambique\u2019s Sofala province.<\/p>\n

\u201cVaccination coverage rose from 62% in 2020 to 86.75% in 2021, emphasising vaccination against different types of anthrax, which reached a coverage of 81% and 85% respectively,\u201d Concei\u00e7\u00e3o said.<\/p>\n

The increase in the number of vaccinated animals, he said, would ensure animal health and the contribution of the livestock sector to the country\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n

The national director for livestock development noted that the government invests an average of over 422 million meticais (over \u20ac6 million) a year in vaccines and medication for animals.<\/p>\n

Am\u00e9rico da Concei\u00e7\u00e3o defended policies to attract young people to livestock activities to ensure the future and sustainability of the sector.<\/p>\n
