In fact, a lecture held in Quelimane with Sheik Aiuba as speaker, recalled that the Koran, the holy book of the Muslim religion, allows that type of marriage, opening the way for any Muslim who so wishes to practice it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the fact that the Qur\u2019an speaks of polygamy (referring to polygyny) as permitted is already an opening for any Muslim to understand that and simply learn to face it. It is not something [against which] to show rebellion or any form of dissatisfaction (\u2026). I emphasise here that it is not a mandatory factor; what is necessary is that those who practise it know how to practise it,\u201d Sheik Umar Aiuba explained.<\/p>\n<p>Inuss Ismail, one of the leaders of the Muslim community in Zamb\u00e9zia, referred to polygyny as a type of marriage that aims to end promiscuity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is very important for our society to stop falling into hypocrisy, because we all know the promiscuity that exists. Therefore, we have to assume the rules of Islam, like the precepts they give regarding polygamy (referring to polygyny). So Islam says polygamy is allowed, but it has its rules,\u201d Inuss Ismail said.<\/p>\n<p>Muslim women present at the event said that, despite the controversy over the issue, they accept it, but add that there must be balance in the treatment of the husband towards his wives, as required by the Koran.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is important that we accept other wives, because men are asked to be fair. So, with this justice for women, I think there is no problem and we can live in harmony,\u201d Judite Cassima said.<\/p>\n<p>Catija Hussein, another Muslim, says polygyny reflects the solidarity women should have with each other. \u201cI agree. I have to show solidarity with the others [other wives].
