Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Victims of the Hulene rubbish tip landslide have since this morning been gathering in front of Maputo City Council headquarters demanding payment of the rents of the houses they currently occupy pending the assignment of their promised new homes in Marracuene\u2019s Pussulane neighbourhood.<\/p>\n

Hulene residents say they have not received their allowance for four months, meaning that they have not paid rent since the beginning of the year.<\/p>\n

They add that this puts pressure on the municipality, because the owners of rented houses are evicting them in the middle of the rain season.<\/p>\n

The government has promised to pay, via Maputo municipality, the victims\u2019 rent until the houses under construction are completed. Less than 50 of the about 300 Hulene families affected have so far been definitively re-housed.<\/p>\n
