Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Since Wednesday (June 30), 368 former Renamo guerrillas on the Monjo base in Moatize district, Tete province, have started handing over their weapons, within the context of the Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) process.<\/p>\n

This phase of the process is expected to take until the 14th of July, with Tete, after Sofala, Inhambane and Manica, the fourth province covered by the process.<\/p>\n

After handing over their weapons, the demobilised soldiers will return to their areas of origin, where they will register to enjoy the rights provided for Renamo guerrillas covered by the DDR.<\/p>\n

The Secretary of State for Tete province, Elisa Zacarias, urged society to facilitate the reintegration of the demobilised soldiers, providing opportunities for them to participate in production and training projects.<\/p>\n

Zacarias explained that, since the beginning of the DDR, Tete had welcomed back 51 former Renamo guerrillas, who had been exemplary in socio-economic activities in their places of origin, and urged all those at the Monjo base to follow their example.<\/p>\n

The Renamo representative on the military affairs commission, Andr\u00e9 Magibire, expressed satisfaction at witnessing another stage of the commitment assumed between the government and his party.<\/p>\n

Magibire foresaw adversities in the social integration of ex-guerrillas in their areas of origin, but challenged them to face them until they surpassed them, saying that they could count on the support of the local authorities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
