Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Japan will donate US$3.8 million (3.2 million euros) to Mozambique to invest in transport equipment and refrigerated storage of vaccines against covid-19, a statement said on Thursday.<\/p>\n

With the support \u201cit will be possible to establish an effective and safe system for Covid-19 vaccines and control the pandemic,\u201d the diplomatic office in Maputo said.<\/p>\n

Mozambique will receive over 1.5 million doses of vaccine against the new coronavirus in July, which will make it possible to speed up the country\u2019s vaccination plan, Health Minister Armindo Tiago said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

In March Mozambique received an initial donation of 200,000 doses of vaccine from China, followed by a boost of 100,000 doses from India and 384,000 from Covax, an initiative of the World Health Organisation (WHO) for vaccination of poor countries.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, 500,000 vaccines ordered by the private sector arrived, of which 139,000 were given to the Ministry of Health.<\/p>\n

The Government\u2019s goal is to have all adults, around 16 million people, a little over half the Mozambican population, vaccinated by 2022.<\/p>\n

The country has seen an increase in the number of cases, deaths and hospitalisations this month, after a slowdown between March and May.<\/p>\n

The country has a cumulative total of 878 deaths and 76,404 cases, 93% of which have recovered.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
