Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican health authorities on Monday reported just one further case of the Covid-19 respiratory disease.<\/p>\n

This compares with seven new cases on Sunday, six on Saturday and one on Friday.<\/p>\n

According to a Monday press release from the Ministry of Health, since the start of the pandemic, 1,310,291 people have been tested in Mozambique for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 159 of them in the previous 24 hours.<\/p>\n

158 of the tests yielded negative results, and the one positive case brought the total number of Covid-19 cases diagnosed in Mozambique to 225,366.<\/p>\n

The positivity rate (the percentage of those tested found to be carrying the virus) fell from 1.42 per cent on Sunday to 0.63 per cent on Monday.<\/p>\n

The sole new case identified on Monday was a Mozambican woman diagnosed in Nampula. Her age was omitted from the report.<\/p>\n

In the same 24 hour period, one Covid-19 patient was discharged from hospital in Tete, and two new cases were admitted, both in Manica. The number of patients under medical care in the Covid-19 wards rose from two on Sunday to three on Monday. Both these patients were in Tete province. Two of these patients were in Tete and one was in Zambezia. One of these patients is in intensive care, receiving supplementary oxygen.<\/p>\n

The Ministry release reported no further deaths from Covid-19, and so the total death toll in Mozambique from the disease remains 2,201.<\/p>\n

Two recoveries were reported. The total number of recoveries thus stands at 223,106, which is almost exactly 99 per cent of all cases of Covid-19 ever diagnosed in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

The number of active cases of Covid-19 fell slightly, from 56 on Sunday to 55 on Monday. The geographical distribution of the active cases was as follows: Gaza, 20; Cabo Delgado, 15; Sofala, five; Maputo city, three; Tete, three; Manica, three; Zambezia, two; Inhambane, two; Nampula, one; Maputo province, one. Niassa was the only province where there were no active cases of Covid-19.<\/p>\n

The Ministry release also reported that, over the previous 24 hours, a further 726 people had been vaccinated against Covid-19. The number fully vaccinated against the disease now stands at 13,799,139, which is 90.7 per cent of all citizens aged 18 and above.<\/p>\n
