Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Frelimo president Filipe Nyusi says that the country is attentive to accusations of alleged human rights violations in those parts of Cabo Delgado and Niassa provinces affected by terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n

Nyusi denies the accusations, explaining that the offensive against the terrorists has the active involvement of members of the Association of Combatants of the National Liberation Struggle (ACLLN) who, organised into local defence forces, participate in the theatre of operations alongside the country\u2019s Defence and Security Forces and the troops from other friendly countries.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost of those who live in the areas affected by terrorism are combatants and sometimes, when thinkers (analysts) \u2013 I say that in quotation marks \u2013 talk about attacking, violating communities, human rights, the country is attentive,\u201d said Nyusi, who is also President of the Republic.<\/p>\n

Nyusi remarked that Mozambique is a signatory to the United Nations Charter of Human Rights, and the government would therefore be foremost in reporting any violations.<\/p>\n

He warned that the government will not accept that, while terrorist search-and-capture operations are underway, voices unite around claims of human rights violations.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s very simple. The combatants, who live there, are [fighting] on the side of the soldiers, the police and our partners, and they know who the terrorist is,\u201d Nyusi explained, quoted by AIM.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why, Nyusi said, naturally they will not kill their brother, their uncle or any other family member.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the ACCLIN congress, the Mozambican head of state challenged: \u201cIf they want to know, let them ask those (former combatants) who are there on the ground, even as some of them are here [participating in the ACCLIN congress], instead of confusing opinions and confusing the international community.\u201d<\/p>\n
