Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Fast on the heels of installing four tolls on the Maputo Ring Road, the company Rede Vi\u00e1ria de Mo\u00e7ambique (Revimo) will, in the next few months, set up an equal number on the three roads concessioned to Revimo for 20 years in Gaza province, south of the country.<\/p>\n

At these tolls, the company expects to invoice more than 2.6 billion meticais, an amount that is being invested in the maintenance and rehabilitation of roads.<\/p>\n

The roads are the Macia-Praia de Bilene road (33 km), which will see one toll; the Macia-Ch\u00f3kw\u00e8 road (63 km), with two tolls; and the Ch\u00f3kw\u00e8-Macarretane road (just over 20 km) with again one toll. The company is currently carrying out routine maintenance on the Macia-Bilene and Ch\u00f3kw\u00e8-Macarretane stretches, as well as the rehabilitation and widening of the Macia-Ch\u00f3kw\u00e8 road.<\/p>\n

On Monday (25-04), the chairman of the Board of Directors of Revimo, Angelo Lichanga, travelled to Gaza to inspect the work in person. At the end of his visit, he reported that work was proceeding at a good pace. In the particular case of the Macia-Ch\u00f3kw\u00e8 road, he explained that the work consisted of its rehabilitation and widen2ing from the current six metres to nine.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe rehabilitation consists of the construction of a 150 mm thick sub-base layer and double surface coating. With the widening, the road will go from six metres wide to nine, of which seven metres are covered, with a one-metre uncoated shoulder on either side,\u201d Lichanga explained.<\/p>\n

As for the Macia-Praia de Bilene road, the Revimo chairman said that the work consisted of routine maintenance of the 33 km stretch. \u201cAs you can see, we are currently on the Macia-Praia de Bilene section, where periodic maintenance works are taking place, which consist of repairing all existing coating defects, such as potholes, broken edges, etcetera, that is, resealing the infrastructure,\u201d Lichanga explained.<\/p>\n

Lichanga said that the overall completion level was about 36.7%, with delivery expected by the end of the current year.<\/p>\n

After the delivery of the infrastructure, Lichanga underlined, the contractor would undertake maintenance of the roads for a period of four years, while giving assurances that the work being carried out would actually guarantee the roads a useful life of 20 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cRevimo will invest around 2.6 billion meticais over the next five years. As for tolls, there are still no foreseen fees, but the fact is that on the Macia-Ch\u00f3kw\u00e8 section we will have two tolls, with free transit in one of them, on the Macia-Praia de Bilene road, one toll, and also another toll plaza from Ch\u00f3kw\u00e8 to Macarretane,\u201d Lichanga concluded.<\/p>\n
