Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The governor of the Bank of Mozambique, Rog\u00e9rio Zandamela, and Mayor of Lichinga, Lu\u00eds Jumo, on Wednesday jointly inaugurated the Pra\u00e7a do Metical (Metical Square) in Niassa province\u2019s capital city.<\/p>\n

This square is one of several that the Bank of Mozambique has been developing with the aim of enhancing the perception of the metical as a symbol of sovereignty, history and national identity.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe intend the Metical Square to praise our currency, the metical, one of the most important symbols of our sovereignty and conquest, so I would like to reinforce our appeal that the square be valued and conserved,\u201d the governor of the Bank of Mozambique said.<\/p>\n

Governor Zandamela said that the square was built on the site of a former kindergarten had sensitised the country\u2019s central bank to the importance of leisure spaces for the little ones.<\/p>\n

Zandamela said he hoped that the Pra\u00e7as do Metical project would bring positive results in the field of financial literacy, one of the central bank\u2019s main social responsibility foci.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are convinced that this square will help to reinforce the process of financial education, both locally and at national level, since the project for the implementation of Metical Squares covers all the provinces of the country,\u201d Zandamela stressed.<\/p>\n

For his part, Mayor Lu\u00eds Jumo expressed gratitude at the central bank\u2019s gift to the children of Lichinga, which he dubbed the \u201cmost beautiful and dazzling Metical Square in the country\u201d.<\/p>\n

Mayor Jumo said he believed that Lichinga\u2019s new Pra\u00e7a do Metical would help restore the city\u2019s beauty, and pledged to do everything possible to maintain and preserve the space.<\/p>\n
