Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The secretary of state of Cabo Delgado province on Friday admitted delays in the reconstruction plan of the points affected by the armed conflict in the province, in northern Mozambique.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn relation to the reconstruction plan, we are a little behind schedule, especially in the area of infrastructure reconstruction,\u201d said Ant\u00f3nio Supeia, speaking to the media in Cabo Delgado.<\/p>\n

The Cabo Delgado Reconstruction Plan, approved by the Mozambican Cabinet in September last year, is budgeted at 256 million euros and aims to respond to the destruction as well as the humanitarian crisis caused by armed attacks that broke out in the province in 2017.<\/p>\n

According to the provincial secretary of state, the teams from different ministries that have been visiting the districts most affected by the armed conflict since September will speed up the work in the coming days.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe government is paying attention to this [\u2026 ] in the coming days this aspect of infrastructure reconstruction will be more robust, through the various projects that already exist and, at this stage, many of them have already been funded,\u201d Ant\u00f3nio Supeia said.<\/p>\n

Cabo Delgado province is rich in natural gas but has been terrorised since 2017 by armed rebels, with some attacks claimed by the extremist group Islamic State.<\/p>\n

There are 784,000 internally displaced people due to the conflict, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and about 4,000 deaths, according to the ACLED conflict registration project.<\/p>\n

Since July 2021, an offensive by government troops, with support from Rwanda and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), has allowed areas where there was a rebel presence to recover.<\/p>\n
