Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Sewage knows no truces, and citizens in Maputo again fear for their health.<\/p>\n

After a brief spell without complaints, residents of the Maputo\u2019s Central and Malhangalene neighbourhoods in particular are again concerned. Sewers are bursting, but nobody seems inclined to attend to the situation.<\/p>\n

The problem indicates the inoperability of the sewage drainage system, and is taking a long time to be resolved by those in charge, which worries residents and passers-by in avenues such as Paulo Samuel Kankhomba, Am\u00edlcar Cabral, Guerra Popular, Marien N\u2019Gouabi, Em\u00edlia Dausse and Mlagre Mabote.<\/p>\n

Citizens have good reason to be concerned. Passers-by have to walk in leaps or run the risk of falling into a pit of black water, and contaminating their homes after stepping in it.<\/p>\n

And moreover, the foul water accelerates the degradation of asphalt already in need of attention.<\/p>\n

On the corner of Paulo Samuel Kankhomba and Am\u00edlcar Cabral avenues, next to the Eduardo Mondlane University student housing and the and Polytechnic University, the sewage leak is not even properly signposted, which increases the risk of traffic accidents.<\/p>\n

In almost every avenue in the city there are open, clogged or overflowing gutters. The municipality needs to improve sanitation, as the situation is untenable. This is a cry for help that calls for an urgent response, as illustrated by the photo by Not\u00edcias reporter Urgel Matula.<\/p>\n
