Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican National Criminal Investigation Service (Sernic) announced on Tuesday the arrest of three men suspected of leading a group that carries out kidnappings and armed robberies in the centre and north of the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese three individuals indicted for various crimes have been arrested. The first was detained in Beira and two others in Zambezia province, as part of the investigations that the police had been carrying out since last year,\u201d Alfeu Sitoe, spokesman for SERNIC in Sofala, told a press conference.<\/p>\n

Sitoe accused the detainees of \u201cleading a group of bandits\u201d who commit kidnappings and armed robberies in commercial establishments in Sofala and Zambezia provinces, in the centre, and Nampula, in the north.<\/p>\n

An AK-47 firearm was seized, loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, allegedly used in robberies, and two vehicles used in committing crimes.<\/p>\n

Some Mozambican cities, mainly the country\u2019s capital, have been plagued by a wave of kidnappings, mainly targeting business people or relatives.<\/p>\n

In November 2021, the Mozambique police set up a mixed force to respond to this type of crime, which will be trained by Rwandan specialists.<\/p>\n
