Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The VET Toolbox 2 project for enhancing transport and logistics skills development was launched at the headquarters of the Beira Commercial Association (ACB) on Tuesday, May 17th.<\/p>\n

The launch event was attended by the EU Ambassador to Mozambique, the Secretary of State for Sofala, representatives of German Cooperation and vocational education institutions and members of the private sector transport and logistics (T&L) area.<\/p>\n

Vocational, Education and Training (VET) Toolbox 2, co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), is a regional initiative implemented in 11 African countries by a consortium of European cooperation agencies.<\/p>\n

In Mozambique, the project is implemented by GIZ-Coopera\u00e7\u00e3o Alem\u00e3, through the Employment and Skills for Development in Africa (E4D) initiative.<\/p>\n

This initiative contributes to improving the investment climate in African countries by strengthening the human capital necessary for investments to be successful and become drivers of inclusive economic growth, social development and job creation.<\/p>\n

In Mozambique, the VET Toolbox 2 initiative will be called \u201cCapacitar para Transportar\u201d (Training for Transport) and will contribute to economic development and the improvement of the investment environment in the cities of Beira and Maputo, with the potential to employ 200 people and improve the professional situation of over 100 workers in the sector, focusing on:<\/p>\n

The Secretary of State for Sofala, Stella Pinto Novo Zeca, said that \u201cthe project will improve employability in the sector and bring new dynamism to micro, small and medium-sized companies;\u201d adding that \u201cthe Beira corridor could become much more competitive, taking into account the strategic position of the Port of Beira in relation to the hinterland countries\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Maputo and Beira economic corridors represent strategic economic areas with a high concentration of companies, both foreign and local, of different sizes. The T&L sector plays an important role in the economic development of these corridors, fostering the country\u2019s development and improving the quality of life of those benefiting from the corridors.<\/p>\n

In his speech, EU Ambassador Ant\u00f3nio Sanchez-Benedito Gaspar highlighted \u201cthe enormous potential of Beira as a strategic development corridor which can benefit from the creation of sustainable jobs and strengthen the transport and logistics sector, essential for the country\u2019s growth and development\u201d.<\/p>\n

The VET Toolbox project is being implemented in Mozambique in partnership with the French \u2018ESSOR\u2019 NGO, the Beira Commercial Association (ACB), government institutions linked to professional education and the T&L sector, as well as companies and associations in the sector, including, among others, Bollore, Appload, MSC, Additional, ASTROS and ASSOLNAMO.<\/p>\n
