Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The central region of Ports and Railways of Mozambique (CFM) recorded a loss of more than 60 million meticais [US$939 thousand]from vandalism and theft of railway material in the last three years.<\/p>\n

Rails, metal sleepers, ballast and coupling pumps stand out in the list of stolen material.<\/p>\n

The figures were made public in Beira this Tuesday at the end of the 7th Ordinary Session of the Council of State Representation Services in Sofala, by the spokesman for the meeting, Oct\u00e1vio Chicoco.<\/p>\n

In the period in question, Chicoco said, around 100 cases of theft and vandalism were reported, most of which occurred on the Sena and Machipanda railway lines.<\/p>\n

Chicoco characterised the situation as \u201calarming\u201d, since it endangers the movement of trains.<\/p>\n

The State Representation Council in Sofala wants community leaders to get involved in surveillance and the identification of suspects.<\/p>\n

Among other matters, the 7th session of the Council of State Representation Services in Sofala also analysed the proposed revision of the national land policy.<\/p>\n
