Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM) is calling for a reduction in Value Added Tax (VAT) from 17 to 12%.<\/p>\n

The MDM points out that the cost of basic necessities, public transport and other basic social services, could be reduced with the application of this measure.<\/p>\n

This was the position laid out in Maputo this Wednesday by MDM president Luthero Simango at a press conference called to analyse the political, economic and social situation in the country.<\/p>\n

Simango also said that the MDM was against churches being made liable for taxes.<\/p>\n

The MDM leader further spoke about the head of state, Filipe Nyusi, serving for a third term, stating that the MDM was against it, and that Mozambique\u2019s Constitution stipulates that the matter must be decided by referendum.<\/p>\n

Simango however noted that another term with Filipe Nyusi as leader of Frelimo was a different issue, and one internal to the party and a matter for its members.<\/p>\n
