Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>US Ambassador Peter H Vrooman and Mozambique\u2019s Minister of Culture and Tourism Edelvina Materula have inaugurated the new Cantinho Americano, now based at the National Library of Mozambique (BNM) in Maputo.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this Cantinho, we hope to offer a space for exchange and access to information,\u201d US Ambassador Peter H. Vrooman said during the opening ceremony. \u201cWe want Cantinho Americano to be a space for diversity and inclusion, and a place that brings people together, deepens lasting friendships, and fuels the desire of many to access the resources to achieve their dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cantinho Americano makes available to Mozambicans free resources for learning English, advice on how to study in the United States, an internet service for research, and a diverse library collection. Cantinho also includes a space for viewing academic, professional and recreational audio-visual content, in addition to two multi-purpose rooms.<\/p>\n

Starting this June, an in-person series, Meet America, will invite American citizens into the space to meet members of the public. The English Club, which stopped working in person during the Covid-19 pandemic, will also restart activities.<\/p>\n

Cantinho Americano is an open space for cultural exchange in Maputo, and at national level through the 70 libraries in all provinces of the country.<\/p>\n

The American Corner at the National Library of Mozambique in Maputo is open on Mondays from 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm, from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm on Tuesday to Friday, and on Saturdays from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.<\/p>\n
