Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Cooperation relations between Mozambique and Equatorial Guinea are producing tangible results, especially in the areas of mineral resources and energy, defence, security, culture and tourism.<\/p>\n

On a state visit to Equatorial Guinea since yesterday, President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, said that the two countries were moving into new areas of cooperation.<\/p>\n

Nyusi held talks with his counterpart Teodoro Obiang and witnessed the signing of the Visa Suppression Agreement for diplomatic and service passports, and a memorandum of understanding in the fields of culture and tourism.<\/p>\n

After the signing of the two legal instruments by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Manuel Gon\u00e7alves, and the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Eldevina Materula on the Mozambican side, the Head of State said that it is time for relations between Maputo and Malabo to move towards the economic area.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the potentials of Equatorial Guinea is tourism, which can be duly matched by Mozambique. Within the scope of Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), our nations must be open to economic development and integration,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

For the Head of State, Mozambique\u2019s entry into the club of gas exporting countries requires the adoption of strategies so that the exploitation of natural resources takes place to the benefit of those living where the projects are located.<\/p>\n

\u201cEquatorial Guinea has a long experience that we would like to benefit from in the field of gas exploitation. We want to exploit local content and make sure resources bring direct benefits to the people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Nyusi further stated that foundations were laid for cooperation in the areas of defence and security, energy, trade, higher education and technical-professional education, transport and communications and Portuguese language.<\/p>\n

President Teodoro Obiang said, in turn, that the two countries face common challenges \u2013 such as terrorism, maritime piracy, food insecurity, internal conflicts \u2013 which require union of their efforts to resolve.<\/p>\n

Teodoro Obiang defended the need for the two countries to move towards economic cooperation, focusing on areas where there is enormous potential such as mineral and energy resources, culture and tourism.<\/p>\n
