Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The governor of the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, Valige Tauabo, on Wednesday urged residents of Ancuabe district, who had fled from a terrorist raid last Sunday, to return to their homes.<\/p>\n

The displaced people sought refuge in the Metoro administrative post, where Tauabo met them, with assurances that security has been restored in their home villages.<\/p>\n

In Sunday\u2019s attack against the village of Nanduli, houses and shops were burnt down and at least four people were murdered. The jihadists burnt two of them alive in their houses, and beheaded the other two. The attack sparked off panic and sent people fleeing into the bush or towards the provincial capital, Pemba.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to urge you to return to your villages\u201d, Tauabo said in his meeting with the displaced villagers.<\/p>\n

According to a report on Radio Mozambique, he assured them that the Mozambican defence and security forces are now stationed near all the Ancuabe villages threatened by terrorist attack. He claimed that some people who had left on the day of the Nanduli attack had already returned.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to give encouragement and strength to the families who are here in Metoro, so that you return to your villages\u201d, said the Governor.<\/p>\n

After receiving security guarantees from Tauabo, many of the displaced said they intend to return. Conditions in Metoro were very poor. \u201cHere we don\u2019t have food, and we don\u2019t have money, so we\u2019re going home\u201d, one of the displaced told the radio reporter.<\/p>\n

Tauabo made vehicles from his own delegation available to carry some of the displaced to the district capital, Ancuabe town. His own vehicle carried two elderly women and five children to the town.<\/p>\n

To encourage the displaced still further, Tauabo gave instructions for the next meeting of the provincial government to be held next Wednesday in Ancuabe, rather than in Pemba.<\/p>\n
