Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>People displaced by the war that has raged in the northern province of Cabo Delgado since October 2017 will receive a gift of 156 tonnes of rice over the next few days, Carta de Mo\u00e7ambique reports. The donation was made by Japan\u2019s Mitsui Group, through its subsidiary ETG, the group\u2019s agricultural company.<\/p>\n

The formalisation of the delivery, valued at US$100,000, took place last Friday, July 2, at the offices of the National Institute for Disaster Management (INGD) in Maputo, and was attended by the Director General of Mitsui in Mozambique, Yota Orii, and Gabriel Bel\u00e9m Monteiro, Deputy President of the INGD.<\/p>\n

In his intervention, the head of ETG highlighted his \u201cgreat satisfaction\u201d in making this donation, saying it was the group\u2019s intention to \u201ccontinue to contribute to the development of Mozambican society\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was the Mitsui group\u2019s fourth donation to the INGD,\u201d he noted. \u201cThe first was in 2015, for flood victims. The second was in 2019, after Cyclone Idai, and the third the same year, after Cyclone Kennedy. The first two were in monetary value, the last two in foodstuffs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking for the INGD, Bel\u00e9m Monteiro thanking Mitsui for the donation and lauded the company for standing by the INGD in the search for solutions to communities\u2019 problems.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce again, we are facing an enormous gesture of solidarity with our brothers in Cabo Delgado,\u201d Monteiro said. \u201cETG supported these communities at the time of Cyclone Kenneth, and are now supporting them in another difficult situation. It means that they are on the side of the Government and [against] the suffering of our communities. ETG is an example for other companies. Companies should not only pursue profit, but also exhibit social concern and solidarity with the most needy.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
