Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Construction of what will be Mozambique\u2019s largest solar power plant, in Metoro, Ancuabe district, Cabo Delgado, came to a halt on Tuesday, 7 June, after the terrorist attack in Nanduli on June 5th.<\/p>\n

Shortly after the Nanduli attack, the Portuguese construction company, Efacec, raised the alert on its website to Level 6, and decided to evacuate all workers, including security guards.<\/p>\n

\u2018Carta\u2019 sources indicate that the facilities have, since June 10, been guarded by the Defence and Security forces.<\/p>\n

The Metoro Solar Power Plant is a partnership between the French renewable energy company Neon and Electricidade de Mo\u00e7ambique (Mozambique Electricity, EDM).<\/p>\n

Efacec is responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance of the 41MW solar power plant. Construction of the plant, occupying 138 hectares of land and with the capacity to generate 68 GWh of energy per year, started last year. The Ancuabe terrorist incursions may delay this project.<\/p>\n
