Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican health authorities on Monday reported only 17 new cases of the Covid-19 respiratory disease.<\/p>\n

At first sight this seems an improvement, since over the previous week the number of new cases had been running at over 80 a day and in one case (Saturday) at over 100. But the Monday figure only looks good because of the relatively small number of tests \u2013 121 \u2013 carried out that day.<\/p>\n

Of the 17 cases diagnosed on Monday, all were Mozambican citizens. 12 were women and five were men. Five were under the age of 15, including a one year old infant. The oldest case was 92. 16 of the new cases were from Maputo city, and one was from Nampula. There were no positive cases from anywhere else in the country.<\/p>\n

The positivity rate (the percentage of people tested found to be carrying the virus) rose from 10.12 per cent on Sunday to 14.05 on Monday \u2013 but this is because of Monday\u2019s small number of tests.<\/p>\n

Two Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital in Maputo on Monday, and three new cases were admitted, all in Matola. The number of people under medical care in the Covid-19 wards rose from 12 on Sunday to 13 on Monday (eight in Maputo, three in Matola, one in Gaza and one in Manica). Five of these patients were in intensive care, and were receiving supplementary oxygen.<\/p>\n

There were no deaths from Covid-19 on Monday, and so the total Covid-19 death toll in Mozambique remained 2,206.<\/p>\n

There were also no recoveries from the disease. The total number of recoveries stands at 223,783, which is 98.8 per cent of of all cases of Covid-19 ever diagnosed in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

The Ministry also reported that in the previous 24 hours a further 5,433 people were vaccinated against Covid-19. The total number fully vaccinated now stands at 14,359.373, which is 94.4 per cent of all citizens aged 14 and above.<\/p>\n
