Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>A Toyota RunX partially destroyed the two main entrance doors of the Grand Plaza Hotel in Nampula early on Monday evening (13-06).<\/p>\n

At the scene, Ikweli learned that the young man at the wheel of the car lost control of his vehicle, which reversed into the hotel\u2019s revolving and manual doors.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe owner of the black RunX changed his tire here [in the parking outside the hotel],\u201d a taxi driver told Ikweli at the scene. \u201cSuddenly, he set off in reverse, tried and failed to brake and smashed into the doors.\u201d<\/p>\n

A young homeless man who washes cars in the area also testified that \u201che (the driver) tried to brake, but it seems that the car is not good\u201d, so much so that \u201cit managed to slow down the speed with that small elevation at the entrance [of the hotel]\u201d.<\/p>\n

Apart from that, there is still no detailed explanation of what caused the vehicle to be out of control and the consequent crash.<\/p>\n

Traffic police deployed to the scene had the support of agents of a private security company which protects the hotel. These latter tried to hamper Ikweli\u2019s work there, arrogantly threatening our team when they took photos.<\/p>\n

Traffic police took the vehicle from the scene to the provincial command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), the driver having already been taken to the police cells.<\/p>\n

According to eyewitnesses, he was in the course of events physically attacked by hotel security.<\/p>\n

The management of the Grand Plaza Hotel has not yet commented on the incident.<\/p>\n

The Grand Plaza Hotel is well-loved by business or leisure visitors to Nampula. Diplomats, members of the central government, politicians and businesspeople number among the guests.<\/p>\n
