Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>After several negotiating sessions, mobile operators Mo\u00e7ambique Telecom, SA (Tmcel) and Vodacom have reached an agreement on a debt settlement plan involving Tmcel immediately paying one third of its 600 million meticais outstanding charges.<\/p>\n

According to a press release from the National Institute of Communications of Mozambique (INCM), Tmcel will continue to make monthly payments in the amount of 12 million meticais for interconnection bills, an amount liable to increase if it is unable to keep its current bill below 12 million meticais.<\/p>\n

The National Institute of Communications of Mozambique explains that, if current bills are below the stipulated 12 million meticais monthly amount, the difference will be used to reduce the accumulated debt.<\/p>\n

Under the agreement, Tmcel will, within 90 days from the 5th of July, present a concrete proposal for the settlement of the remaining 400 million meticais interconnection debt.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe monthly compensations, as well as the follow-up of the payment of the accumulated interconnection debt, will be made monthly on a date to be agreed, under observation by the Regulatory Authority for Communications,\u201d the communiqu\u00e9 reads.<\/p>\n

The INCM says it will continue to monitor the dispute between the two companies until it is resolved.<\/p>\n

However, \u201cdue to a consensus being found, Vodacom will not proceed with the cut of the interconnection. The guiding factor for the consensus between the two operators was the importance of the continuity of telecommunications services provided to the users of the two companies and the public interest\u201d, the institution concludes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
