Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Various political, cultural and social events will be held this week as part of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (Frelimo), which will reach its high point with the holding of an international symposium.<\/p>\n

The symposium will take place under the motto \u201cNational Unity and African Solidarity: Shared Experiences and Contemporary Challenges\u201d, and will take place on Thursday in the country\u2019s capital.<\/p>\n

The meeting will be opened by Frelimo secretary general, Roque Silva, followed by introductory remarks by Jos\u00e9 \u00d3scar Monteiro, a fighter in the national liberation struggle.<\/p>\n

The symposium will see interventions from political parties with ties of friendship to Frelimo, including Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), from Tanzania; the ANC, from South Africa; ZANU-PF, from Zimbabwe; the MPLA, from Angola; UNIP, from Zambia; and SWAPO, from Namibia.<\/p>\n

The leaders of these Southern African liberation parties will speak about their experience in building and consolidating national unity and solidarity, in favour of the liberation and development of African countries, highlighting the relevant aspects of their historical relationship with Frelimo.<\/p>\n

Two debate panels are also planned, bringing together both combatants and academics to reflect on the themes \u201cNational Unity\u201d and \u201cAfrican Solidarity\u201d, while on Friday, there will be a gala at the Eduardo Mondlane University Cultural Centre.<\/p>\n

Frelimo, the ruling party in Mozambique, is the result of the transformation into a political party of the movement that fought for independence and liberated the country in 1974.<\/p>\n

Frelimo was founded in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, on June 25, 1962, and launched its armed struggle in 1964. Hostilities ended in 1974 with the signing of the Lusaka Accords, and national independence was proclaimed on June 25, 1975.<\/p>\n
