Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), via their provincial command in Nampula, have denied that any terrorist attack took place last Friday (17-06) at L\u00fario administrative post in Memba district.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had information about some movement that could be happening at the border between Cabo Delgado and Nampula, specifically in the area of L\u00fario and Siri\u00e7a, on the basis of which the police deployed a force to the scene to ensure a prompt response in the event of any attack,\u201d spokesman Zacarias Nacute said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was no official information, or official confirmation, of any actual attack in the area. What did happen is that there was instability at the community level due to a possible terrorist threat in an area where our forces, particularly the PRM, are currently on the ground. We have a post in the L\u00fario area and are carrying out monitoring work there,\u201d Nacute explained.<\/p>\n

The PRM spokesperson admitted there had been some cases of vandalism, but they were not terrorism-linked. \u201cWe had information that some stalls [barracas] in the area were looted, but we don\u2019t know for sure if they are exactly terrorists. It could have been someone who took advantage of the panic situation to steal goods,\u201d Nacute suggested.<\/p>\n

But the PRM were certain that, \u201cat this moment, there was no attack in our province, in Memba and Er\u00e1ti\u201d.<\/p>\n

The watchword within the corporation remained surveillance and prevention, Nacute said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPolice deployed on the spot and at the borders have been reinforced to ensure that terrorists do not enter our territory, given the fact that Nampula [province] was a recruitment hotspot for individuals joining the criminal groups,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
