Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>It is increasingly expensive to travel by boat from Palma to the city of Pemba, capital of Cabo Delgado. According to the United Nations Agency for Refugees (UNHCR), displaced persons are now being charged 2,500.00 meticais, against the previous 1,500.00 meticais \u2013 an increase of 66.6% since the end of May.<\/p>\n

According to UNHCR, the increase in the price of transport is due to the dangers and risks associated with the trip, which can last for more than ten days. Some people have perished on the journey from shipwreck and ambush by terrorist group.<\/p>\n

The city of Pemba continues to be the main destination for the displaced, not least because the Tanzanian authorities persist in refusing to grant asylum to victims of terrorist attacks. The UNHCR claims that at least 1,270 people were prevented from entering Tanzania in June, bringing to 9,753 the total number of people denied asylum there in 2021.<\/p>\n

The small groups of people who have managed to enter the neighbouring country receive no food, medicine or shelter from the Tanzanian authorities.<\/p>\n

The UNHCR also reports situations of families being separated at the border, members with Tanzanian nationality being granted entry while others are turned away.<\/p>\n

The organization also underlines that there has been a sharp rise in the prices of basic products, making life increasingly difficult for Mozambicans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
