Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>State-owned Eletricidade de Mo\u00e7ambique (EDM), wants 40% of its employees to be women by 2030, an initiative that aims to promote gender equality, it said in a statement, to which Lusa had access on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cEDM is determined to reach the goal of 40% female representation in its workforce by 2030,\u201d said Iolanda Cintura, executive director for Human Resources at EDM, where women currently represent 18.5% of employees.<\/p>\n

The goal is established in the Gender Strategy 2021\/2030 which aims to \u201cexpand the space of promotion of the actions of female workers in the company\u201d besides encouraging and giving priority to hiring more women.<\/p>\n

The company said that it had supported the training of women with scholarships for professional technical education, in an investment of about six million meticais (\u20ac89,000).<\/p>\n

\u201cEDM recognises that women can and should contribute to the success of its noble mission to produce, transport, distribute and sell good quality electricity in a sustainable way,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n
