Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Nacala Logistics announced on Thursday it was resuming general cargo rail transport between Blantyre, the economic capital of Malawi, and the port of Nacala in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe operation was interrupted for about four months due to the effects of heavy rains and Cyclone Ana, \u201d but resumed this month and is active, a statement said.<\/p>\n

The bad weather in the first quarter caused \u201cthe collapse of the Mauzi rail bridge, in the section between Nkaya and Limbe, in Malawi,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n

With the reopening of the section, Nacala Logistics hopes to return to carrying 45,000 tons per month between the port of Nacala and Malawi in both directions.<\/p>\n

The line includes a container cargo monitoring system through which it is possible to follow the progress of transport operations remotely.<\/p>\n

Grains, fertilizers, clinker and fuel are among the goods transported.<\/p>\n

The transport of goods came about as an additional service for the 1,000-kilometre line built to transport part of the coal production from Tete, in the interior of Mozambique.<\/p>\n
