Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The government continues to seek to mobilise financial resources for interventions on around 1,053 kilometres of National Road Number One (EN1) which are in an advanced state of degradation.<\/p>\n

The assurance was given a few days ago by Deputy Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Cecilia Chamutota, who said that an executive project subdivided into three main phases had been prepared.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first phase is budgeted at around US$400 million and will be implemented on 400 kilometres of road between Inchope and Namacurra. In Phase Two, 345 kilometres of road from the Save River to Mux\u00fangu\u00e8 and from the L\u00fario River to Metoro are expected to be repaired. In the third phase, an intervention is foreseen in 294 kilometres from Pambara to Save and in the Mux\u00fangu\u00e8-Inchope-Metoro-Pemba section,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

The deputy minister noted, however, that while funding for the rehabilitation works was being mobilised, the contractor bidding process for periodic maintenance of some critical sections of the EN1 was also underway.<\/p>\n

She admitted there was concern regarding the condition of the EN1, which is why the government had been working on mobilising funding, not only for rehabilitation, but also for maintenance.<\/p>\n

She cited, by way of example, the funding already mobilised for the rehabilitation of 35 kilometres of the Nicoadala-Namacurra section, as well as of some critical points on the section between Zandamela and Mux\u00fangu\u00e8.<\/p>\n

Chamutota professed herself convinced that the road network in Sofala province would improve dramatically with the completion of the 130 kilometre Tica-B\u00fazi-Nova Sofala road.<\/p>\n
