Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Traveling from Maputo to South Africa will cost between R30 and R50 more from 1 August as a result of increases in the cost of fuel.<\/p>\n

It has been almost two years since the tariffs for international transport from Maputo to South Africa have been updated, but the latest increase in fuel prices have forced the operators\u2019 hand.<\/p>\n

Prices will rise \u201cbecause of the rise in fuel prices, which have already increased three times while we have not imposed any increase. The pandemic has worsened the situation,\u201d said Marcelo Gule, representative of Maputo\u2019s Junta Terminal international carriers.<\/p>\n

Traveling from Maputo city to Rustenburg, which now costs R450, will cost R500 from 1 August.<\/p>\n

From the country\u2019s capital city to Durban, R450 will be paid, against the current R400.<\/p>\n

The Maputo City\u2013Johannesburg route, which costs 350 rand, changes to 400 rand.<\/p>\n

Traveling to Nelspruit from Maputo City will cost R30 more; the fare rises from R200 to R230.<\/p>\n

In addition to the cost of fuel, international transporters complain of illegal operators who undermine their livelihood.<\/p>\n

\u201cVehicles board passengers outside the terminal and the police just let them, but when we go out to protest, the authorities say we have no right. Those who are not even licensed are taking our passengers, while we licensed operators are supposedly not doing our job,\u201d Gule said.<\/p>\n
