Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican anti-corruption NGO, the Centre for Public Integrity (CIP), has launched an electronic platform that aims to allow users to consult the real amount to be paid in the case of fines and other irregularities when questioned by the authorities.<\/p>\n

The device, according to the organization\u2019s spokesperson, Baltazar Fael, will bring several benefits to users, reducing the corruption perpetrated by traffic police officers and others on the roads.<\/p>\n

Fael, speaking at a Maputo press conference on Monday, said the platform will allow motorists to consult immediately the fines that the authorities should charge. The device will help considerably to reduce the number of drivers who suffer extortion because they do not know the highway code or the amount of fines that the police are allowed to charge.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will help you in your dialogue with the police if you do not agree with the fine to be paid, or even in case of an offence\u201d, Fael explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to ensure massive use of this platform so that we can mitigate the acts of corruption that take place on our roads\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n

The source also explained that the two reports on transparency and good governance, published by the CIP, in the period 2005\/2012, indicate that the traffic police are among the top offenders in the practice of acts of corruption.<\/p>\n

Asked about the fact that the launch of the platform coincides with the African Day for the Fight against Corruption, Fael explained that the initiative is a contribution of CIP to help fight corruption in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

\u201cCorruption in public life is a phenomenon well known by all, and it continues to gain frightening levels in our country. That is why we contributed to the creation of this innovative platform\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

July 11 was established as the African Day for the Fight against Corruption by the African Union (AU) in 2017.<\/p>\n
