Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique saw deflation rise from 0.31 percent to 0.52 percent in June, the National Statistics Institute (INE) said on Friday.<\/p>\n

The basket used to calculate the Mozambican Consumer Price Index (CPI) fell for the third consecutive month.<\/p>\n

Accumulated inflation in the first six months of 2021 thus fell to 2.53 percent.<\/p>\n

As in the previous month, \u201cthe \u2018food and non-alcoholic beverages\u2019 division was the most prominent, contributing around 0.57 percentage points to the total monthly variation,\u201d according to the CPI bulletin released today.<\/p>\n

In terms of the main cities, in June Beira posted a drop in prices of \u201caround 0.97 percent,\u201d in Maputo the cost of the CPI basket fell by 0.31 percent, whilst in Nampula there was a reduction of 0.63 percent, INE said.<\/p>\n

Despite the monthly drop in prices, year-on-year inflation in the country advanced three basis points from 5.49 percent (in May) to 5.52 percent.<\/p>\n

Average 12-month inflation in Mozambique has been rising since April 2020 and in June stood at 4.16 percent (compared to 3.92 percent in May) Mozambique ended 2020 with accumulated inflation of 3.52%.<\/p>\n

The CPI figures are calculated from price variations of a basket of goods and services, with data collected in the cities of Maputo, Beira and Nampula.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
