Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Two citizens, one a Rwandan and the other of Burundi nationality, were murdered by persons unknown in the Montepuez district of Cabo Delgado and in Nampula city\u2019s Muatala neighbourhood, in less than a week, Carta de Mo\u00e7ambique reports.<\/p>\n

According to what Carta has learned, in Montepuez, a Rwandan woman was beaten to death at her home in Napai last Wednesday. She had lived in Montepuez for some time and ran a restaurant and bar in the Nacate neighbourhood.<\/p>\n

There is no hard information concerning her death, although some sources suggest an alleged settling of scores or issues of passion between the victim and her boyfriend. The National Criminal Investigation Service in Montepuez announced that it is working on clarifying the case.<\/p>\n

It has been a long time since Montepuez, Cabo Delgado\u2019s second city, registered such a heinous crime \u2013 not, in fact, since the region took in so many foreigners as a result of ruby mining in Namanhumbir.<\/p>\n

The Nampula victim is a man of Burundian origin, also murdered by parties unknown. The crime took place at the victim\u2019s residence on the morning of 7 July and was only discovered around noon by the man\u2019s 15-year-old daughter, who usually visits her father on the way home from school.<\/p>\n

The victim\u2019s daughter told journalists that she found her father\u2019s body on the floor in a pool of blood and showing signs of having been beaten. She herself went looking for help, since an employee at the residence had disappeared.<\/p>\n

A cousin of the victim also lives in the house, and is presumed to have been at work at the time of the crime. The victim, who ran a passenger transport company, had been registered with the Mozambique Refugee Association in Nampula for over five years and was known as an active and peaceful member of the Burundian community.<\/p>\n

The executive director of the Mozambique Refugees Association in Nampula, Ismael Luc Abraham, said he was surprised by the news of the murder, adding that there was so far no detailed information as to any motive. Abraham had asked the police to clarify the case, but he doubted that there was any political motivation involved.<\/p>\n

He said that the murder of his colleague left the association feeling threatened as well as downcast. He said that this was the tenth case reported in the last six months, making the north of the country, as elsewhere, a dangerous place for foreigners.<\/p>\n
