Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambican police on Wednesday announced the detention of a man posing as a police officer and seized a gun he was using to threaten his victims in Chimoio, central Mozambique.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old was detained on Monday in a suburb of Chimoio while posing as a police officer to rob his victims, explained Mateus Mindu, a police spokesman in Manica province.<\/p>\n

The air rifle \u201cis lethal and was used in the crimes\u201d just like a firearm, Mindu said.<\/p>\n

He has been charged with the crimes of \u201cfalse pretences, illegal possession of a weapon and possession of drugs\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n

The police are also investigating whether the detainee is involved in the kidnapping of a businessman from the commercial sector, a week ago in Chimoio.<\/p>\n

Mindu was arrested a few hours after he had threatened an angry mob with a gun as they tried to snatch another young man suspected of swindling and extortion from his hands.<\/p>\n
