Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>For some months now, refugees from Mozambique have been arriving in Malawi fleeing violent attacks in the north of the country.<\/p>\n

In fact, since 2017 the extreme north of Mozambique, the province of Cabo Delgado, has been the victim of attacks by Islamic extremists. Some families who arrived in April were welcomed in a place near Mangochi, a town near the border with Mozambique. The center, initially built to house people affected by the numerous natural disasters that have hit Malawi in recent years, is currently managed by the refugee department of the Malawian Ministry of the Interior with the support of UNHCR and is used as a transit post for those who they are awaiting refugee status.<\/p>\n

The center does not have an assigned doctor or medical supplies, and people are expected to use government health facilities which are a long way from the area. Furthermore, children do not have any form of schooling. A delegation from the Community of Sant\u2019Egidio di Mangochi visited and met the families, to whom it distributed soap and clothes, with the promise to return soon with other help.<\/p>\n
