Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>On Monday, 12 July, the Mutauanha Primary School in the city of Nampula received 118 school desks, a gift from a former student there.<\/p>\n

Businessman Paulo Henriques had the idea, 36 years on, of acquiring the desks, which will get more than 300 children off the floor.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was my first school. When I attended Grade 1, 36 years ago, conditions were nothing like the present,\u201d Paulo Henriques said, adding that he believes other former students could also support the school.<\/p>\n

School director Lu\u00edsa Tavira thanked Henriques for his gesture, and asked if other businessmen and people of good could not follow his example.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf this example were followed by all those who have passed through this school, it would help us to overcome many difficulties,\u201d the director said, promising to maintain the desks assiduously.<\/p>\n

Speaking for the government, Permanent Secretary of the District of Nampula, Olindo Socas, also recognised Henriques\u2019 gesture, saying that school was the best place to master science.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can only have good students when classes are administered in a good environment, one component of which is sitting at a desk. So, on behalf of the district government, thank you very much,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The delivery of the desks was witnessed by parents and guardians, students and teachers, some of whom, now retired, had taught the entrepreneur-donor his ABC.<\/p>\n
