Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The 35th anniversary of the Homo\u00edne massacre in Inhambane, which was marked on Monday, 18 July, should serve as a moment of reflection on the need to preserve peace and national unity, culture and tourism authorities in Inhambane province say.<\/p>\n

It was on July 18, 1987 that Homo\u00edne experienced one of the worst events in memory: the massacre of nearly 400 people, 350 of whom were buried in a mass grave.<\/p>\n

Sus\u00e1ria do Amaral, head of the Department of Cultural and Creative Industries at the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism in Inhambane, said that the massacre was a clear example of war\u2019s negative impact on society.<\/p>\n

Children in particular, Sus\u00e1ria said, must be told about the mass grave and receive instruction in the value of peace and national unity.<\/p>\n
