Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Maputo Metropolitan Transport Agency (AMT) on Wednesday presented \u2018O Pa\u00eds\u2019 with proof that it has transferred compensation to passenger transport cooperatives, and that only two entities have not yet received funds, due to technical issues.<\/p>\n

In response to complaints from some passenger transport cooperatives that there was discrimination in the payment of compensation, the AMT presented documentation that it had, from the 14th of the current month until last Tuesday, transferred, through a commercial bank, 22 million meticais to the cooperatives\u2019 bank accounts.<\/p>\n

A considerable number of out-of-order buses were found in inspections of the cooperatives on the list of those to benefit from the funds, which may have delayed the process in some cases.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe paid [compensation] regarding 116 buses, except for those that come from the FTC, but also to those we have already started to pay on 18 July,\u201d said Machaure Gede\u00e3o Alberto, Finance and Human Resources administrator at the AMT.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe would have paid Cooptrans and Cootrac-1 yesterday, but we felt that we had to do an exhaustive job as these two cooperatives received the first buses. From the inspections carried out, we saw that 27 buses were out of service,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The president of the Mozambican Federation of Road Transport (FEMATRO) says that the issue of broken-down buses needs to be clarified, as some do not present serious problems, but acknowledged that almost all have been paid.<\/p>\n

\u201cA large part, 90%, has already received [compensation]; these two cooperatives only did not receive due to these problems that I have already mentioned. In conversation, the financial officer assured me that he will resolve it today [Wednesday],\u201d he clarified.<\/p>\n

The AMT says it is waiting for the semi-collective operators to regularise their legal status before making payments, and FEMATRO says it is still organising their licences.<\/p>\n
